Following up on our meeting with Rotary Interational and Tameside Rotary this summer and their presence at our 9th Anniversary Dinner, we recently gave a presentation at Tameside Rotary Club on the background to our Eye Hospital project in Bangladesh, in anticipation of their visit in January 2017.
Mizanur Rahman was guest speaker of the rotary and gave a brief outline of the history of the project - from the land purchase in 2012, through building work in 2013 and completion of the ground floor in 2014 when we began providing a twice-a-week GP service and eye camps, right up to date - where we are now in the final phase nearing completion of the first floor. We therefore proposed that the Rotary International could help with the procurement of equiment need to complete facilities for a fully functioning eye hospital.
The main speaker - John Miles of Rotary International - spoke of the Rotary's "Global Solution" and said that while Rotary have eye projects in India and several other countries, they did not in Bangladesh and so would be very happy to assist us in our project in obtaining equipment. With this in mind they will be vising the Just Help Eye Hospital in Gwainghat Thana to check out the facility and determine how best they can help in conjunction with the Jalabad Rotary in Sylhet. If all goes well we will have completed by December 2017.
Speaking for Tameside Rotary, Andrew Williams President of Tameside Rotary said that this will be their first trip to Bangladesh and that they will do whatever they can to help make our dream a reality.
"A wonderful project to help support the poor and needy in Bangladesh"
